The John Howard Society of Windsor

Our History

In 1949, Colonel Day Warnica founded the Windsor branch of the John Howard Society of Ontario.   A half-century has since passed and it is as fair as it is perhaps inevitable for us to ask if time has been well served by our five decades of service to Windsor-Essex community. Have long and honest exertaions met early and admirable expectation? Have we faithfully pursued our central and defining mandate? Have we maintained a consistent yet flexible integrity of purpose- an integrity in the proper sense of the term, entailing a faithful correspondence to an original vision.

We are happy to report that, for the most part, time has been well served by the local Society. For five decades, we have dutifully honored the original measure up well to the precipitating inspirations of the past. This should not be too surprising, since sound ideals are the progenitors of a successful future; just as surely as cynicism can be the graveyard of possibilities that were never to be.
